It's funny how Ryan and Kyle have genetically/behaviorally taken after the Vanatter side more... Ryan started picking at his toenails and fingernails from a very young age...before he ever knew I tend to do the same thing...tmi:) Anyhow, the tied-tongue is another one of those things they have inherited. We've chosen to get it fixed. We've been glad we did so for Ryan because his concentration in sports is somehow related to sticking out his tongue!
Well yesterday it was Kyle's turn. He was a good little monkey. Had to wake up so early and didn't start asking for "num num's" for a few hours. His only issue pre-surgery was wanting to explore the pre-op area on his own two feet, but dealt with it fairly well.
Here he is right before or after getting the "sleepy juice" from the anesthesiologist. Either wanting to get down and explore or mad that the guy in the blue suit forced medicine in his mouth.
After he got the "sleepy juice" from the anesthesiologist, he was good entertainment! Here is his pre-surgery tongue with the middle stuck down!
Here is my "drunk" baby who could barely keep from falling back. The man's voice in the background was our anesthesiologist who took Kyle off to surgery moments later.

ere he is enjoying a popscicle after surgery. When Ryan came out of anesthesia post his surgery, his disorientation was horrible. The doctors prepared me more this time than last time about the age and the wierd feeling in your head and confusion causing most kids around his age to freak out when coming out of anesthesia. Wish they would have prepared me better for Ryan's surgery...he wouldn't open his eyes to know mom and dad were there...hearing our voices didn't help, it was traumatic. Don't know if it is because Kyle is about 4 months older than Ryan was or what, but he was fussy and cried here and there, but overall much better, especially when they gave him some medicine to deal with the pain. By the time we left the hospital he made sure he said "bye, bye" to every nurse or doctor he saw.
He's doing great now! Did great after surgery and this morning, but last night was not great, quite fussy for a few hours before bedtime. He started sticking his tongue out almost immediately upon waking from surgery. It looks great!

Let's hope they exemplify their grandpa Scott in all the good ways too!!! I wish it could have been as easy for them as it was for you when you got your tongue clipped within your first few weeks of life. Well, he is such a little trooper. We love you all

The trauma of surgery!! I only say that because of Dylan's ear tubes, which went so smoothly but was so traumatizing for me. You all look like you handled it with humor and patience. Maybe because you had done it before? Makes it so nice to know what to expect.
Drunk Kyle is really cute and funny! I'm glad the surgery was a success and you're on your way to a boy with a new tongue!
Seriously how cute are drunk and tired babies! Too bad that surgery comes with that! I am glad all went well and that he will have a better tongue now!
I wish I could have seen the "drunk" Kyle. I'm sure it was lots more entertaining the "fussy". Poor guy-too bad he had to go through so much trauma to get a better tongue!
Tongue surgery is no fun but looks like he did awesome. We can relate a little with having had stitches in Coops tongue. Your little Kyle is so cute. I love his round face.
Surgery is so sad! Just looking at those pre surgery pictures makes me want to cry! Yea it does look like you and Kyle both handled it very well. "Drunk" Kyle...so funny. That makes sense about the "coming" out of anesthesia being hard for kids and I'm glad you knew what to expect this time. Can't wait to see the after pictures too. I hope the recovery isn't long. Can't be as bad as tonsils, right?
